Masala Prawns

prawns large seize
(peeled and deveined)                        300g      
ginger garlic paste                               2 tsp
salt                                                    1/2tsp
turmeric powder                                 1 tsp
red chilly powder                                1 tsp
fennel powder                                     1 tsp
lemon juice                                         1 tsp

oil                                                        2 dsp                   
onion medium, thinly sliced                4 nos.

mustard seeds                                   1 tsp
garlic  minced                                     2 cloves.
tomato medium, chopped                  4 nos.
green chilly                                         6 nos.
ginger juliennes                                  1 tbsp
curry leaves                                       10 nos.
corriander powder                             1.5 tsp
fennel powder                                    1 tsp
water                                                 4 cups
salt to taste.

  • Wash the peeled prawns and drain the water.
  • With a small, sharp knife split the prawns in half lengthways not quite all the way through .
  • In a bowl, mix the ginger garlic paste,chilly powder ,turmeric powder,fennel powder,salt and lemon juice.
  • Add the prawns and marrinate well , keep in the refrigerator for minimum half an hour.

  • Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan , add the sliced onion and fry till lightly brown.
  • Remove the onion from the fry pan and set aside.

  • Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan ,splutter the mustard seeds , add the garlic and marrinated prawns,fry for a minute over medium heat.
  • Add the tomato green chilly,ginger and curry leaves.
  • Add the corriander powder and  fennel powder.
  • Saute well
  • When the tomato get mashed ,add 4 cups of water along with enough salt.
  • Bring to boil for a minute and cover with  lid , simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Add the fried onion and mix well.
  • Cook over slow fire for another 2  minutes.
  • Remove from the fire and serve hot.
